The Passion To Learn Drum
The drum is under the family of percussion group of musical instruments. It is played by the use of drumsticks or with the hands to produce vibration thereby creating a sound. It is considered to be one of the oldest instruments known. During the ancient times drums were used during celebrations, rituals, burials and even as a warning for the people of an upcoming danger. Drums are usually grouped as one to develop a terrific harmony of sounds and beats. This group of several drums is called a Drum Kit or Drum Set. To learn drums, you must first learn the different types of drums that composed a set.
The kinds of drums that you could find in almost all Drum Sets are the Bass Drum which is the biggest of them all. It produces a very low pitch sound when struck by a mallet (a hammer-like stick attached on a Foot Pedal and controlled by the drummer’s foot), the Snare Drum which is struck with a drumstick on the drummer’s non-dominant hand, the cymbal which is a round metal that produces a loud ringing sound when hit and the tom- toms which are high pitched drums with no snare.
To start learn drums, you must know about drumstick grips. There are two ways to hold your sticks, the matched grip in which the sticks are held between the thumb and the index finger and the remaining fingers are curled around it. This method is popular among most drummers. Another is the traditional grip in which the stick is placed on the space between the thumb and index finger and one end of the stick is rested on the top of the ring finger then the thumb, index and middle fingers are wrapped around the stick.
In purchasing drum sets, beginners are recommended to avail an inexpensive basic set then upgrade the whole kit as their skills develop. For a beginner, start playing the basic beats first. You could count out loud to help you get the rhythm and groove of the song. Just relax and enjoy the sound your hands produce on the drums. Learn to practice properly and seriously.
Don’t get discouraged easily if you cannot learn the drums quickly. It takes time for your brains to comprehend the sound and your arms and legs to get used to the synchronization. Do practice sessions of at least 10 minutes a day and stick to your routines. Taking lessons from the experts is the best way to learn drum easily. They will be able to guide you on holding the drumsticks correctly, how to properly beat on the drum and how to do different kinds of drum beats. Once your mind and body have gotten used to the beats, you’ll just realize that you can play the drums in a perfect rhythm.
A great drummer is someone likely to have an eternally lighted passion for the drums. Every beat of the drum, every note produced by the drumstick is a song to gladden his heart. To be a great drummer, one must not only learn how to play the drum, but must also have determination and constant practice to perfect his skills and have a lifetime commitment to master it.
