How to Paint a Drumset?
Hey,
I was considering painting my Ddrum Dominion Maple Shell Pack. Right now it is snow white with black/bronzish rims and lugs. After gigging with it for a year it has a ton of scratches and dings. Not painting it is not an option. It does not have a wrap but is actually painted and sparkle coated. So, how do I go about painting/making it shiny?

Like a guitar, you would have to sand of the old paint first and sanding it with a #600 fine sandpaper to give a smooth finish.
Also, you need to remove the lugs and all metal or the paint will definitely chip at the hardware.
Secondly, apply a sealer which will weather proof your set against temperature changes. Then apply 5 or 6 coats of paint. Apply thin coats and don't worry if you miss some spots. After a few coats, it will cover perfectly. Finish with a lacquer to seal off the finish and you won't have to worry about future nicks and scratches because the lacquer will protect it.
