how to make a homemade pontoon out of 6 plastic 50 gallon drums?
we are plannin on putting to recliners on top of the frame and we are powering it with a troaling motor how do i connect the frame to the plastic barrels and what do i use for the frame
45 is right, get at least 8, 10 would be better. Build a frame of either wood or metal-- bed rails come to mind. Allow for the drums to poke thru the frame abit and then strap them in. That way they won't escape when you hit rough water. The bed rail will let you plate over the deck with 1/2 in plywood. Build a solid transom -as one day some buddy will say "Hey I got an old 25 hp I'm not using." And you won't have to re-engineer the whole thing in the middle of the summer.
If you are using the big blue drums you will float high and dry for years. If your going to leave it in the water, paint them with anti foul paint and you wont have big green strands following you around.
