How can I carve oval indentations in wood?
I want to try to make a copy of an old egg tray my Grandma uses. It has egg shaped impressions in the wood. I have tried to carve some by hand but they look terrible. Does anyone know what tool will make nice smooth oval indentations in wood? I want them to look like an egg impression. How do I do it? Thanks.
It is PAIN-STAKING and careful work... the tool you need is a #7 GOUGE. It's a palm-knife / chisel, and examples are here:

It takes practice, practice and more practice to do good wood-working... You take the wood away a tiny bit at a time. Then sand smooth.
