How do I tune my Snare Drum?! See desc.?
How many lug turns on the bottom and top sides? I will the use the popular 'star' method of tuning. What do I do after that?
I just tuned my snare with disapointing results. I've been on many many websites but little go into to exact details in the lug turns on each side and what I do...help!
Their is a way to accurately tune your drums. We do that in the studio all day long before record any artists.
Make sure the Bottom Snare skin is tight. and if you have to, put a piece of tape in the middle across the strands. That will add crispiness to the snare. Now. loosen all the top lugs and hand tighten them one -by-one afterward. Then and only then do you tighten each lug, 1 full turn at a time. Then drop to 1/2 turns and then 1/4 turn. Sometimes the skin can be overstretched closer to the rim depending.
Finger tap the skin close to the rim and to the lug. Compare with the other lug... tap etc... They should produce an even sound. If the sound is too high or too low, tune 1/8 turn max or less at that position.
When you are done and think that the sound sounds pretty well the same, use the stick and hit the center. The sound should be crisp and with no OVERTONES.
If you hear overtones. Check the bottom skin and tap near the lugs or press slightly to make sure the tension is even all around. If it has more slack in some place, tighten slightly 1/8 turn or less.
