Remo Djembe

How do you tune a Remo djembe?

I recently bought a 14" remo djembe with tuning lugs, the only problem is I don't know how to properly tune it or tell when it is in tune. Any help is deeply appreciated, thanks.

Hi,
On the Remo site they have a link labeled Drum Talk. You can add your new topic there under World Percussion. Otherwise....to get the head even in tone to start, grab a pencil and use the eraser end to tap on the head where each lug is. You will be able to hear the tonal differences and then able to adjust accordingly. Once the head seams to sound even you can tighten or loosen each lug (use the star pattern) to get the tone YOU want.
