When Pump Systems Are Used In The Lab
Pumping solutions for research and medical analysers have one problem in common: Noise. Operating a pumping system that creates the least amount of sound in the possible small areas of the lab is important for the easing of potential hearing hazards, and for easy working environments. A diaphragm pump system could be the best answer to noise prevention in the laboratory.
A diaphragm pumping system has simplicity in design, yet can be a precision machine when it comes to the positive or negative pressure for analysers. For evaporative strategies, this form of pump can be a boon to the procedures, as fluids being pumped go unmolested through the system, not being exposed to moving metal parts. The diaphragm part is made of flexible material that may be coated with super-click PTFE, and can be engineered to bear unsafe chemicals.
The ins and outs of diaphragm vacuum pumps is austere; a motor is attached to an arm, which is then fixed to the surface. As the motor spins, a cam operates a side-to-side or up-and-down motion in the arm, which flexes the membrane. The chamber in which the membrane is housed has valves on each end, thus facilitating a regular flow of air or fluid.
The valves operate in a corresponding way to 'butterfly ' valves, except they're more like flexible flaps; pressure from the interior of the chamber within the pump forces them to be closed or open.
The chamber itself can be covered with top grade rubber or remain smoothed metal. The options in the type of diaphragm pump is only limited to the uses and applications concerned. Air filters can be fixed to the pumping system to prevent contamination of dust particulates during operation.
The same may be said of the fluidics being used with the pump. PTFE seals and associated parts may also be used to prevent blocking or clumping of fluids while pumping thru the system.
