How do I get the wrinkles out of Drum Head?

My 10,12 and 16 evans g2 heads went on fine but My 8 inch is getting wrinkled. I noticed that I had to actually push the head into the rim unlike all the other drum heads and when I put the clamp on it pushes on the under side of the rim and wrinkles the head. I used the drum dial with the clamp on and off but it didnt help, still wrinkled. Any one else have a snug fit like this and should it be like that? I should be able to lift the rim off the drum and the head stay on the drum right?

At first, it sounds like you have tuned the head unevenly, but as your other heads aren't wrinkling, this is not likely the case. Just in case that is the problem, be sure that when placing the heads on the drums you first tighten the Tension Rods with your fingers as tightly as you can. Then, use the Drum Key to tighten the rods one quarter turn. Tighten one lug, then the one directly across from it. Then move to the lug next to the second one, tightening it and then the lug across from it and son on.

If uneven tuning isn't the problem, then it sounds like the head is either the wrong size or it has a defect, such as a "pull". A pull is usually the result of uneven tuning, but it can also happen as at the factory and possibly slip through the inspection department. A pull is when the head begins to separate from the metal rim. Just check the rim of the head very closely to make sure that the head and the rim are attached all the way around.

One more thing about uneven tuning...if the head doesn't have a pull, try putting the head on like normal. When it starts to wrinkle, try applying more tension to the rod(s) closer to the wrinkle. Wrinkles are a result of uneven tension to the head. This is why pulls cause a wrinkle, since the head isn't connected to the rim, there is no tension on the area of the pull.
