Basic Tips For Your Bathroom Improvements
With rental homes, bathrooms tend to be plain and outdated. Are you looking to smarten up yours? While a total overhaul is out of the question (lest you want to irk your landlord), there are simple and functional touches you can add to turn the space from drab to fab.
Window Treatments:
There are two important factors to take into account with bathroom windows. First, it is a confined space and needs natural light through its window. Next is about privacy. No other room in your home requires as much cover-up.
For a relatively affordable window privacy solution, you can install window film on the bottom half of the window and leave the upper part as it is. By hindering the view from outside, this window film renders the much-needed concealment while allowing natural light through. Your decorative options include frosted, etched and stained glass designs.
Decorative window film can be used not only on your bathroom window but also on your shower cubicle. Concealment on the lower half and light from the upper portion can be attained with interior shutters or café curtains.
Wooden blinds are worth your trouble. This gives you the option of closing the slats as needed, or leaving them in an open position to let the light in. In addition, wooden blinds go well with other types of décor and can be cleaned quite easily.
Storage Accessories:
Bathroom built-in storage in lease apartments are seldom] seen. Install shower caddies or shelves against the walls, so you will have something to hold your toilet articles, candles or scented oils. Just be sure the ones you pick out are suction-cupped, tension-mounted or silicone-glued. This is to ensure you won’t be paying for ruined tiles.
It may seem old-fashioned, but a tension rod is a tried-and-tested alternative to shower curtain poles that need drilling. But not to worry, advanced types of tension rods are no longer restricted to metals. Versions of the product include chrome and bamboo, which are available.
Wall Covering:
Search for cover-up, heavy-duty appliqués or stickers that can be stuck on tiles, in case the wall surface is adorned in not-so-attractive patterns. Most call for just stripping off the paper backing and pressing them into place. Removing the stickers can be done by going for heat over the sticker for a few minutes with a hairdryer.
Freestanding Furniture:
Since you cannot incorporate any permanent installations, go for freestanding furniture. If the bathroom floor area allows, you may bring in a bathroom stool or chair, a storage locker, or a bureau. Besides being useful, such add-ons can make the space feel comfortable, cozy and luxurious. But remember to select only waterproof pieces, as steam and moisture can damage uncoated surfaces.
Lights:
Removing the actual light fixture may not be permitted, but you can probably update the replaceable components or parts. For instance, you can pick a bulb with a softer light. Or change the existing shade with a more stylish one.
If a complete hands-off rule exists, you can place scented candles somewhere to produce a more relaxing air. A battery-powered table lamp is another option, but you will need to set it in a spot that always remains dry.
There are a number of ways to brighten up your bathroom. Before working on any modifications, be sure to go over the rules in the rental arrangement to avoid problems. Just try to make life comfortable wherever you are and be creative in doing so.
It may seem old-fashioned, but a tension rod is a tried-and-tested alternative to shower curtain poles that require drilling. But not to worry, modern types of tension rods are no longer limited to metals. Variations in chrome or bamboo are now obtainable.
